BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES

Ashley Jane Wenera was born on February 12, 2339 in Flagstaff, Arizona on the North American continent on Earth. She was born into a family of Hispanic heritage with a long tradition in the medical field. Her mother Leslie Jane and her father Alano Wenera were both noted physicians. Ashley spent most of her childhood in Arizona and as a young girl enjoyed exploring the outdoors, going on regular trips to the nearby national parks. She never questioned however her desire to become a physician like her parents.

The Wenera family relocated to Melbourne, Australia in 2351 after Ashley turned twelve. Sad about leaving behind her friends she was nevertheless excited about the opportunity to explore the Australian outback.

Ashley enrolled at the University of Sydney in 2357 and graduated in 2364 with a doctorate in medicine and surgery. She completed her medical residency at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2366.

Her interest in seeing new places greatly influenced her decision to join Starfleet. In 2367 she entered Starfleet Academy and the following year she graduated from the basic medical training program, making her a certified Starfleet physician with the rank of lieutenant junior grade.

Ashley decided to join Starfleet Medical on Earth where she became a member of MAAP, Starfleet’s Medical Assistance and Advisory Program which is dedicated to sending medical personnel and equipment to worlds that face dire health emergencies.

At Starfleet Medical she met veteran Doctor Elijah Katanga whom she greatly admired. He became her unofficial mentor and a moral anchor as well as a source of strength and comfort.

Ashley dedicated herself completely to her new position, working tirelessly on numerous alien worlds to alleviate suffering and heal the sick. Her efforts were rewarded by the Federation in 2370 with the Medal for Medical Excellence and Outstanding Courage.

In 2371 Ashley decided to move her career into a new direction and lobbied for a posting on a starship. With Doctor Katanga's help, she was recruited later that year by Captain Owens to become the chief medical officer on the newly commissioned USS Eagle.
